Raptors are widespread predators inhabiting all terrestrial ecosystems, and therefore serve as valuable indicators of ecosystem health. Sometimes referred to as ‘environmental barometers’, or the ‘coal miner’s canary,’ declining populations of raptors are often the first obvious component of a failing ecosystem. We believe that by protecting raptors and effectively managing for them, we in turn protect the wild integrity of ecosystems as a whole.
